Reviews for Avra
Being Greek, I couldn't believe I would ever find a Greek restaurant with such an exquisite, elaborate and well-thought menu. I had read about this place in several gourmet magazines, but you really need to try it yourself to be convinced. It is sitting in midtown Manhattan with tables outside and a very Greek island feel to it inside. The menu is something else! Try the courgettes and eggplants as thinly cut as crisps and served with tzatziki which is just right, the mouthwatering sardines served with lemon and olive oil, the stuffed calamari with 4 greek cheeses and mint, the amazingly succulent spinach pie, the octopus and any other fish. The staff is extremely helpful, and yes they can speak Greek too! They can also recommend the wine that goes with your food. You can tell that they have a standard clientele of lawyers and politicians, given that the staff is greeting them by their names! I am still mesmerised by the place, so if you find yourself in midtown Manhattan, visit Avra.
