All week in NYC I had been looking forward to trying a very specific Vietnamese restaurant. On my last night I boarded the subway, made my way to Chinatown... only to realise I had forgotten to bring the name/address of the restaurant! nly slightly downheartened I decided that it still had to be Vietnamese cuisine, so we wandered China town trying to chose where to go. If I'm honest, we eventually picked Pho Viet Huong because we were starving - it didn't look much from the outside!

We went inside and were seated by a nice, if brisk, server. The menu's he gave us were extensive - I was immediately tempted by the dish on the first page - 7 ways of serving beef. When the waited came over I asked for a recommendation - he advised me away from this dish (possibly because it getting late?!) and instead steered me towards Beef wrapped in grape leaves, followed by shrimp noodle soup. My boyfriend followed suit with a beef appetiser (i forget which) and soup - although asked with panic after the server had gone if we were really only having soup for dinner? I reassured him it should be enough - but did have a moment's doubt when he pointed out that the soup only cost $5...

We were brought a little pot of tea for the table - not sure what type it was but it was very refreshing. The dishes all turned up at about the same time. The definite star of the table was my beef wrapped in grape leaves. I'm not sure what was in it, could taste nuts, maybe a hint of lemongrass. And it was served with a little pot of chilli fish sauce for dipping - heaven. The soup was similarly good - huge portions of tasty broth, with perfectly cooked shrimp and swathes of noodles. On the side was served bean sprouts, holy basil and lime, bottles of soy and hot sauce were on every table.

We ate as much as we could - I don't believe we finished it - and left feeling happy and satisfied. The whole meal came to about £10 for both of us...!

I really must stop writing these reviews before lunch - I'm starving again! And feel a mission coming on to find out the recipe for those beef in grape leaves! YUM!
