Sangthai
Church CottageEscrick, York, YO19 6EX
The service is terrible, you are rushed in and rushed out, which is odd considering the times that we have visited there were only a couple of other tables occupied.
The food arrives quickly.. not sure whether this is good or not.. but probably the latter as its low quality, poor tasting food, which you'll find is very much over priced.

I would not recommend this restaurant. I have given it three goes now, as it is a convenient meeting place with friends.

I had a couple of glasses of wine, and then a glass of tap water.. which 4 of us all thought tasted like it was tinged with kitchen cleaner detergent!
If you are looking for a really great thai restaurant and dont mind travelling. The best Thai that I have found in Yorkshire has to be in the small market town of Beverely, called Muang-Thai. Its genuine fresh Thai food at its best, its very small with only 60 covers or so to enable the chef to literally cook your meal to order. Its mouthwatering.
I was sadly disappointed at Sangthai, especially having read so many good reviews in the past. Skip the disappointed and give it a miss.
The Sangthai is a really REALLY good restaurant! Hidden away off the main road through Escrick, it feels exclusive and upmarket straightaway, and you are given a warm and friendly welcome by the staff as soon as you step in the door.
This is the perfect place to come with friends for great food and a catch up, or come for a romantic meal for two. We've spent the past two New Year's Eves at the Sangthai - and will probably do the same again this year. The food is absolutely delicious - we always go for the mixed starters to have a bit of everything on offer! And for main course ... well my other half and I have worked our way around the menu and finally come up with firm favourites - mine is the prawn yellow curry and his the beef, peanut and potato curry.
It is quite expensive (usually end up about £25-£30 a head with wine and starters) but totally worth it as both food and service are excellent - it's a real treat every time. Never had a bad experience here and while other restaurants come and go, this stays on our list of favourites. Always fairly busy (another good sign!), I would certainly recommend booking - especially Fridays and Saturdays.
The Sangthai can be found just a few miles south of York. I have eaten there many times and have yet to be disappointed by the food or the friendly service. I have tried a wide range of the dishes on offer from the usall Green Thai curry to more adventurous duck and fish dishes. I am still to find a favourite although the deep fried ice cream is worth leaving space for.
