This place was okay, but kind of disappointing considering the other reviews we read. Asked for it extra hot but came extra bland; not 'gross' or anything, just not very good. Considering quality, not much of a value. Won't eat there again.

Ok I LOVE Thai and I have been to some really wonderful Thai restaurants.

Siam House is a rather splendid gem in York. Where all about it are boring pubs the usual Italian restaurant haunts and less than inspiring fish n chips, Siam House stands out as unique and tasty dining experience.

The vegetarian starter menu 'for two' is well worth an order, just make sure that you get more battered vegetables than battered tofu as these are more than moreish!

All the staff are really friendly and helpful, and the uniform of 'traditional' thai dress provides a wonderful colourful backdrop to the very popular restaurant. Siam House IS popular. Thurs - Sat its a good idea to book in advance. The restaurant also does a take away menu, and if you ask they will tweak dishes to your preference - especially that vegetarian started for two, just ask and all the crispy vegetables will be yours!

Other 'best of ' menu options include King prawns in garlic sauce, king prawn and scallops green curry and probably something from the special board.

As you would expect from a Thai restaurant the wine menu is not fantastic, so i would recommend an apertif elsewhere, before enjoying a splendid meal and then a foray back into York for a quality glass of something to bask in the quality after glow of Thai food satisfaction.

Siam House would have got 5 stars, but I have been more than spoilt by Thai outlets, the best of which was Green Chillis in Sydney Australia on Oxford Street. Order the Seafood Yellow Curry - AMAZING! :)
