The Balloon tree is just outside York, and definitely worth the trip. My favourite bit is definitely picking your own fruit! It makes such a difference to get home and eat fruit that was still on the plant half an hour ago, it tastes so much better. And it is so cheap! Compared to the supermarket, or other farm shops, picking your own seems to be about half the price!

They sell their own produce in the shop, which is great and very well stocked. There are some very nice items in the deli too, cold meats, cheese and a few other bits and bobs.

They even sell their own home made cakes, the list goes on and on! They have a cafe too, so you can relax after all that effort.

If the food is well source, then the flavours are sure to be a fine thing. And there's no need to 'over-prettify' the tables and chairs. Good and honest quality is what you will find at The Balloon Tree.

Buy from the shop fresh produce, locally sourced and do your bit for the 'community' and ethical food consciousness. After all that goodness a well deserved sit down in the adjoining cafe means that selected delights do not have to wait until you return homewards.

The hot chocolate is devine, with or without the whipped cream option. Food is freshly baked and home made is the order of the day, and in such a way as you can imagine a little old dear having slaved away to give a wonderous feast of high tea fancies. The favourite is always Phyllis’ fresh cream roulade; delicious! And Phyllis is nice too.

If you are feeling enthusiastic and want to build up an appetite there's also a pick your own trail. Perfect to follow with cup of yorkshire tea and take in the views from the cafe. Phew it's hard work all this fresh country air!
