Ok, so breakfast isn't all that they do, but it is very good! Proper fried English breakfast, but without the usual helping of grease. It is very tasty, and a friendly place to sit down on your travels around the city, but it can get very busy!

They sell some of their own home-made preserves too, which are a nice added touch. If you want somewhere nice, that will not cost you an arm, a leg, and a vital organ, give it a shot, it makes a change from queuing outside Betty's for an hour and a half!
This little gem can be found at the top of The Shambles and is located in the little square there called Kings Square.
The meals are mostly of the breakfast variety and the place is also licenced - In case you require an early morning drink. Personally, a nice cappachino was on the agenda along with an english breakfast. The menu is outstanding. I skipped the english breakfast and could not decide between smoked kippers or eggs benedict? Why go to New York for eggs benedict when this place does a great version!!! All of the produce is organic or locally sourced so you can be confident that the food is going to be good. And everything on the menu is great value as well.
Oh...the cappachino was excellent as well!!! They also sell their own range of homemade preserves and chutneys. Please visit when you are in York. Independant traders like Kings Cafe need our support in the face of the multi national, sterile, everything expensive and tasteless coffee companies that are everywhere.Do yourself a favour and eat here. I cannot recommend it enough.
