I agree, possibly the best pub in York. Jack the landlord keeps the ever changing beers well.. Food is good, I have had sunday dinner there and all I can say is that he does a good roast !

Good mix of people in there, does a lot of work for charities with charity gigs. Hosted the pork pie festival last year.

Great pub, recommend it to anybody

The "Tap" is just outside the City Walls, close to Monk bar, has a car park and a beer garden. There's a good selection of well-looked after frequently changing ales on tap, but it's not exclusively a beardies pub - in fact there's probably more of a mixture of punters than in any of the other pubs in York I can think of. I've never eaten there, so I can't comment on the food, but the beer and the atmosphere are excellent, which is what I think pubs are all about and it's handy for quite a few nice restaurants (not the Chinese Buffet at Monk bar though - avoid).

The snug in the front part of the pub should be on every pub loving York tourists itinerary. I always try to take my friends from home there when they visit!

The owners frequently hold events like their annual "Pork Pie Festival" and "Party in the Car Park" which raises quite a lot of money for charity (local band the Surf Sluts play the odd gig - sort of like the Damned meet the Beach Boys) . Otherwise, any music is unobtrusive - again, that's what I think it should be in pubs. It's "dog friendly" too. Well worth a visit.

An excellent Real Ale pub situated just outside the bar walls. This pub benefits from having a large out-door area. The excellent range of real ales are ever changing and include local and regional breweries. Food is Served at Lunch times.
