Fish and Chips 74

We stopped here for the first time today for a light tak-away lunch on the beech after shoping. Something of a surprise awaited us from this superb little family business that's been here since 1974. Whilst the young chap was preparing our chips, I asked if I could try one and he of course said yes. Wow...some flavour so I enquired what type of potato they are using and he said they only use new potatoes as they have no 'eyes' or black spots. These are then cooked fairly fast at high temperature which prevents the chips soaking up oil, makes them crisp on the outside, soft and floury on the inside. This must be a good technique as there was no lingering smell of deep frying. It was also noticeable that the customer area was spotlessly clean. A good sign as I arrived towards the end of the lunchtime service.

Tourists, very competitively priced and high standards. Located about 200 meters inland from the beech just past the Tex garage and next door to the SPAR shop. Free parking on the west side of Heene Road.
