Methinks coreproject owns or has an interest in The White Swan.

At best it is 'Ok'. My husband and I went for his b'day on coreprojects recommendation. I would have gone to the Oriental Pearl but his/ her review swayed me.

We walked in and didn't recieve a smile or a good evening. In fact we didn't get a smile the whole evening.

The menus were greasy.

It is a nice room and the toilets are pleasant.

We had a set menu. It was Ok. Crab...

We had a set menu. It was Ok. Crab claws were actually minced crab in breadcrumbs. Nothing stood out. Nothing to create the kind of enthusiasm coreproject had.

The complimentary prawn crackers and wedge of melon were a nice touch but apart from that - meh.

We will be going to the Oriental Pearl next time we fancy a Chinese.

This is a little gem of a restaurant situated on the Woodford Broadway near Woodford Tube station. My girlfirend and I live very clsoe to here and it's always a trusted place to go when we want to enjoy a good meal. The slogan says it's more than just another Chinese restaurant, and it does live up to that - the dishes mix Chinese staple dishes for those who prefer their dishes simple and tasty (ie sweet and sour chicken/pork, beef in black bean sauce etc) but also allow for slightly more adventurous tastes (whole fresh crab, squid fried rice, ).

Take one of the excellent and refreshing soups to start with (the hot and sour, and wonton soups are particularly good) before ordering a main.

The food is always cooked, spiced and seasoned perfectly, and the service not intrusive. The restaurant is narrow but spacious, well kept and ambiently lit. And best of all, is the prices are only slightly more than what you'd expect to pay in a bog standard Chinese take away.

The winelist is also well stocked and offers a good, affordable selection, with the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Alsace Gewurtztraminer crisp and spohisticated wines that go perfectly with the light, crispy spices of the food.

Always a good place to go.
