Reviews for The River House

I have to agree with Lotte32, the service here isn't good, in fact i really don't like it! I have been here a few times with my partner and friends and the staff seem to take exception to large groups. Even when we can here with just the two of us, the staff have a tendency to ignore the customers! Service is slow and not good when ordering food either. However the menu itself is good and when the food does arrive, it is delicious and cooked perfectly. The isn't a huge quantity, but the quality is good. The location of the place is also great, right next to the river

A riverside location is always a bonus on a summer's day.
I had a glass of pimms and didn't eat, but saw that a lot of people were eating and it all looked very good. The bar staff were average, they didn't offer a tray for a large round of drinks and ignored me at first, but nothing major.
The car park next door which I think belongs to the train station is very pricey so try and find something on the road if you can.
The clientele seemed a mixture of trendy youngsters and older couples, which I tend to think means the food is probably good as it appeals to wide selection of people.
I would def go back and try their menu.

I agree about the staff here - definitely a touch of 'looking straight though you' syndrome going on sometimes!

Formerly a rather grotty pub until it was renovated in 2005, The River House is now a respectable restaurant and bar boasting one of the few riverside locations in Windsor. Situated around the corner from the Windsor & Eton Riverside train station (which goes directly into Waterloo), it has a large paved area out front with tables going right down to the river. As a result, it tends to be packed outside on warm days, although I always seem to be lucky in getting a table. Likewise on colder days I've never had a problem getting a table inside without a reservation, indeed it's a large place that often tends to be rather empty - a shame as they've made the interior attractive with modern art on the walls and a pleasant dining area, although the bar area always manages to look comparatively scruffy with its club chairs and ring-marked tables. Perhaps the prices are just a touch too high to attract more regulars? Or it's too tucked away to pull in the tourists? Who knows. They do a fine asparagus risotto for under £10, though, and the Pinot Grigio always slips down nicely.
