Great day out, good for photos

Marwell Zoo is a great day out. Set in the Wiltshire countryside it offers something that can be enjoyed by both kids and adults outdoors. Very spacious with wide paths, as most of the park is outside even when full you are not fighting the crowds. Marwell is involved in several conservation projects and keep their animals well, all enclosures look clean and spacious. The park has a relaxed atmosphere, probably helped by the fact that most of the animals are fairly quiet. You might not see some of the usual animals (there are no lions or elephants but there are tigers and giraffes) but it is a pleasure to walk around. Cameras are welcome at the park and there is plenty of space to set up although you will still find fences getting in the way about half the time.

Getting there: Well signed posted from the M3 and there is a large car park with plenty of parking.
Price: Resonable entry fee and very good value annual pass
Food: Last time I went there were a few places offering the standard fair (hotdogs, drinks, icecreams etc) but the restaurant was in the process of having a face lift. Many people bring picnics and there is plenty of space to sit and eat.

Highly enjoyable, medium sized, zoological park set in peaceful Hampshire countryside.

Good variety of animals in well maintained habitats. I've been to many zoos and this was the first place I'd seen a giant ant eater.

The park is nicely laid out - there is a road train and mini-railway to help you around the park but it's not too much effort to walk the whole way round. Mobility vehicles are available too.

Various eateries exists around the park - not all are open during off-peak days.

Good value for money - there's enough to keep you occupied for at least 5 hours.

There is a hotel on-site if you wish to make a special visit.
