Sometimes you need to think outside of the box and try places that you wouldn't ordinarily be drawn to. Not able to get into a cafe for a bite of lunch as it was too busy, myself and a friend decided to head down the road and grab a bite to eat at Charlottes.

This wouldn't usually be my choice of venue, especially as it has an air of old fashioned charm about it, linen table cloths, chandelier type lighting etc but we were hungry and so stumbled inside.

On reading the menu you can get lots of tearoom favourites such as scrambled egg on toast etc but i decided to go for the afternoon tea option. This consisted of sandwiches, a scone with jam and a pot of tea - all for under £4!

My choice of sandwiches were egg mayo as I don't eat the ham that was on offer being a vegetarian. When the waitress came with my order it was like something out of an old fashioned Enid Blyton book. A cake stand with plates with rose print on and sandwiches on the bottom and the largest scone I have ever seen with clotted cream and jam on the top!

The sandwiches were perfect and freshly made but the scone was sublime. Not sure how the cook manages to get scones to rise that large but it was delicious and with the jam and cream naughty but very nice!

I can't say enough how great this place is only that I will be going back and very soon!
