I was really surprised to read Famicon's review of the Waterford Arms, describing it as 'abysmal', so off we trekked last Friday to see if it had slipped down the proverbial tubes. Much to our delight, it hadn't. In fact, the fish and chips were even better than before and I swear that the portions are even bigger. And the staff were all as friendly as ever.
Mrs Shrek settled on a small portion (£6.95 including tea or coffee) and I had a standard... neither of us could finish the entire plateful. As for quality... I simply can't fault the quality of the fish, the excellent batter, the faultless chips and the perfect execution. Served piping hot and cooked to perfection, fish and chips don't get much better than this. And as for price... it's amazing value!!

Don't care what this place is like for fish n chips. We booked for dinner and left before even finishing the starters. The 'salad' accompanying the thin slice of shop bought pate was a handful of wet lettuce (plate swimming in water) the breadroll was raw dough in the middle, the waitress was rude. \\\\\\All in all it was without doubt the worst 'dining' experience we have ever had.We will never under any circumstances go there again.

The Waterford Arms in Seaton Sluice was recommended to me by a friend when I was whinging about the poor quality of the fish and chips available locally. His words of wisdom were: whatever you do, don't buy the 'jumbo' fish portion, it is huge. He was so right! I struggled with a 'large' portion, and I can eat for England. The freshly cooked fish and chips were stunningly good, certainly in my top 5 for the whole UK. And they also server proper mushy peas, all creamy and a bit stodgy and very unpealike; yum yum.
Their menu isn't limited to fish and chips, there are lots of great home cooked alternatives for everyone. And the adjacent bar is a great place to hang out pre and post noshing. Although, if there's a football match on the big telly featuring NUFC and you are not a fan, then best find an alternative corner to sup in.
