Superb value for a Michelin starred meal

This place gave me one of the best meals I had eaten anywhere with a single michelin star and for under £30 for 2 courses from the A La Carte menu.

After a selection of home made bread and a free tasting starter I had a sublime locally sourced beef with locally grown vegetables. The owners have sinced moved to The Nut Tree and are doing great things there but the new chef has reclaimed the Michelin star after just a year out of the guide - so I hear that it's still as good as ever from friends who visit there...

Great food, tasteful decor, a whole body experience

A Michelin Star restaurant the Goose pride themselves on offering simple things done well. They buy premium quality ingredients from local suppliers wherever possible. The menu changes regularly to reflect the seasons and to give diners something new.

A typical dish at the Goose might be a torte of braised lamb shoulder and potato served with creamed spinach and lamb jus, followed by a plate of toffee puddings which include a miniature apple tart tatin, sticky toffee pudding and praline ice cream. They cook dishes based on classical ideas using in many cases traditional French recipes. This is complemented by a well chosen wine list.

I loved the dcor, which is stylish and contemporary; clean, crisp lines, hessian and natural oak flooring, cream tongue and groove walls, brick built pillars - traditional materials but a sophisticated feel. The table settings are just as stylish and simple with pretty blue and green glassware, white linen napkins, polished silverware, long white candles and fresh English country flowers.
