Reviews for Luna
Luna is great value and the pizzas are cooked in a proper pizza oven. Best in Sussex. Pizzas and salads great, mussels, prawns great too. Sometimes other main courses a bit disappointing. Overall love it and go there more than anywhere else but only for the mentioned types of foods. Fab!
I can't imagine what other diners expected - this isn't Pizza Express or Dominoes.
We booked for a special occassion before going to a film at the Picture House opposite. Despite the fact that they were booked up for Halloween, they accommodated us at short notice.
The menu is extensive with some delightfully interesting combinations that make most of the chain Italian restaurants look quite dull. The food was truly superb and the service was fast.
Because it's divided into cosy sections, it feels intimate, so despite the fact that the restaurant was heaving, it wasn't noisy and we didn't feel harrassed.
The prices are fairly high, but in this day and age I don't think £100 for a meal for 4 including mains, deserts and wine and some beers is that bad - the average main course is between £8 and £16, so it's on a par with some of the Chain restaurants.
I would recommend this highly, especially for a romantic dinner before a nice movie - or after.
Right - there's a stylish bar full of every kind of bottle you can imagine. So I ask for a Margarita. "Oh we don't get much call for that". Then I ask for a Harvey Wallbanger, then you tell the waitress how to make it. Then she presses buttons on her machine and the price? £6.20 each!!!!! Excuse me!!! That's £2.80 a shot!!! Then she asks you to write down the ingredients for future reference!!! What is the point of having all those pretty bottles unless you know what to do with them. And where do they get off charging £6.20 for a drink. No wonder people never seem to be enjoying themselves in the bar. No wonder we all just drink wine and beer. That's all we can afford at these prices. I've eaten in Luna and the food was good. Typical rip-off prices for this part of the world but that's what we've come to expect. When I moved here in 1980 "cocktails" were considered foreign. It seems, even after 27 years, they still are a bit of a mystery. I guess those bottles are just for decoration. Good thing transatlantic flight prices are coming down so we can all go and enjoy a drink in a bar that knows how to make one!
Somewhere between being bombarded by awful music, being stared at by an evil waitress and your food actually being only semidigestible you realise that this restaurant falls short of high standards expected of it. The menu is limited and hard to read, the food prices are extortionistic, and above all you won't be getting much for your money anyway. My advice: Just go to the pizza express across the road!!!
Under new management so hopefully service has improved. Offers standard Italian food with some nice specials. Nice decor and ambience.
