Brula is a very nice restaurant serving excellent French cuisine. The restaurant is located in St. Margarets on Crown Road, which is not a location you would expect a great restaurant, and it is not that huge, but is surprisingly tasty, it is probably the best French restaurant in Twickenham. It is a great place for a nice meal out, and its steaks are very tasty indeed. And it is pretty reasonably priced unlike some overpriced restaurants in Twickenham which are not even that good. If you are looking for a French meal in Twickenham then I would definitely recommend this.

In an unexciting street near St Margaret's Station, rather than near the Thames, Brula nevertheless overcomes its location by consistent high standards of cooking and service. On all ill-favoured Monday in the holiday season only three tables were taken at lunchtime, but the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable and the food of a high quality. I had a first-rate salad and a serviceable dourade royale (my fault for ordering fish on a Monday) but my colleague was ecstatic about his 'onglet' steak and I was able to pinch most of his chips while he was enthusing about it. We shared an excellent plate of regional cheeses and were only prevented by our car keys from having more of (in my case) a delicious Premier Cru Chablis than necessary.

I guess because of the rather uninspiring location and ordinary decor. I also feel that a bit of 'star inflation' has crept in to my reviews lately...:-)
