I have never really been able to get my head around this place, despite living in the town for nearly ten years. I've been in a few times, but only a hand full of times and eaten there only the once.

Some people probably find the interior 'cool' or 'arty' or something. Personally I find it scruffy and uncomfortable.

I don't understand the opening and closing times either. Sometimes the place closes at six pm, even if the place is busy.

It is a live music venue too, which is great if that's your thing but if you have booked a table to have something to eat I would imagine it would be rather annoying.

On the occasion I did eat there, the food was very good! Not as good as Rumour, but not as expensive either!

This place is absolutely beautiful to look at. From the outside it's no more special than all the other beautiful old buildings in Elizabethan Totnes, but inside it really stands out and you could almost be transported back to a time when minstrels play while you dine on Pheasant and hog roast with lashings of mead. Except this is Totnes in the 21st century and you're more likely to be enjoying organic asparagus soup with garlic bread or one of the fine pizzas garnished with fresh basil from the new pizza menu. The other great thing about this place is the music and there are often up and coming bands and solo artists featured as well as events like 'green drinks' where you can come and discuss politics over your half shandy!

I love this place, its very unsual, rustic & has the feeling of the backstage of a theatre. The food here is good, prices good & great music. Also a unique view of Totnes castle towering above from the rear. My only bug bear is the smoking in there, although they have stopped it during the lunchtime. Roll on the 1st of July!
