Shambles is named after the old slaughterhouse on the site - but luckily there are no other signs of its past. It's a mix of dark, atmospheric bar with food, and a restaurant at the back, with a surprisingly large garden. The food is Italian influenced, and you can eat from the main (more expensive) menu in the bar area, as well as from the bar menu. I prefer the garden on a sunny evening for a special occasion, though the bar has a Cheers feel, and there's often live music. The food is a bit expensive, however, though always well cooked and presented. Not sure why we don't go more often except the price and perhaps there's a slight feel that regulars are more welcome.
