Reviews for Uplands Tavern
"The Tav" as you call it if you are a local is famous throughout Swansea. Local bands play there and it becomes part of the Uplands Music Festival every year. Tuesdays were open mike nights last time I checked. The pub is a mix of students and aging hippies with some goths thrown in for variety. The crowd are a friendly bunch and go there enough and you're bound to make some strange friends. No food is served but the landlord (a generally grumpy old b*****) is open to you bringing your chips along. There is a pool table and darts. This is not a place to watch the footie, music is the name of the game. Outside there is a large terrace with trellises and tables with canopies. The Tav is extremely popular so sometimes there is a one in one out policy. Which feels vaguely insulting to a regular.
This is my favorite pub in Wales. There is simply no other place quite like it. The pub is a music pub and host live music throught the week. They are involved in the local music scene to a great degree. They have two pool tables and a fantastic outdoor balcony which is great to sit on in the summer.
The place often gets so busy that you see people queueing outside, although this is mainly in the warmer months due to the popularity of the balcony.
Mainly students are inside, but there are also locals and musicians find it a popular place to drink.
The only negative i can really think of is that the drinks are more expensive than many of the other pubs in that area, and a far cheaper pub, the Bryn-Y-Mor is only down the road.
All in all though I'd highly recommend spending some time in this pub, especially during their summer based 3-day Music festival, which they share with a few neighbouring bars.
The Uplands Tavern is a convenient and good night out for Swansea folk. The pub is a good size and has a slightly alternative relaxed feel. There are a couple of pool tables which is always a good way to pass a couple of hours and there is often live entertainment. The Tav provides a stage for many local bands esepcially rock and blues and it is free to get in.
There is plenty of seating but it is often very busy so may be standing room only. This being said there is also a terraced area out the front with additional seating.
It is conveninetly located near many of the uplands area kebab houses and cash points so for a night out without having to go far it is perfect. You can pop in for a quick pint or spend all night in this pub.
