I love hidden pubs down country lanes and more importantly one's that don't disappoint.

With a name like "The Cock Inn, Bulls Lane" I half expected Sid James and Barbara Windsor to be running it but that fear soon dissipated as I entered the lavishly but tastefully refurbished bar and dining area. This is a taste of fashionable City dining in the country with Open Kitchens, Wood Fired ovens and plenty of aged wood juxtaposed with slate floors and soft furnishings.

The food is well cooked, and particularly good value for money for such an upmarket eatery and there is a choice of a bar or restaurant menu to suit most tastes and budgets.

There is a vibrancy to the place, enhanced by the informal but meticulous staff which leaves you with a satisfied feeling when you leave. It's no coincidence it's just a couple of miles from The Belfry either - far more preferable to the restaurant there I've found and less vicious on your pocket !

Wannabe posh pubs take note - you don't have to be stuffy & expensive to tick all the boxes and deliver a good experience...

sounds a 'hidden gem' - *sob* that's its not closer to my home stomping ground of york.
Am particularly pleased there's 'meticulous staff'; something all too hard to find in the chain-gangs and supposedly credible power of the 'posh pubs'. Yes Living Rooms i mean you.
