i have read other reviews of "the rattler" and can only assume that the bar was heavily used before the restaurant. this is the worst italian eaterie i have ever eaten in. the bruschetta was like a cold, soggy sock and the arrabiatta was bland and made with packet pasta then obviously microwaved. really poor, and on top of that it was very over priced given that south shields has plenty of better and cheaper italians. on top of this i was surrounded by unruly, shoeless children screaming, which neither the staff nor there parents acknowledged. there is a huge difference between a family restaurant and eating in a school yard. i would never, ever eat in this place again.

We have been here a few times now and just keep on going back. Not only is the food the best Italian in South Shields by a long shot but the service is second to none. The staff really try to make you feel special, and the whole place is always clean. It's a bit more up market than other places in South Shields so they tend to get a higher class of customer. Overall a really good Italian restaurant.
