I grew up in Marsden so we went for meals at the Marsden Inn quite a lot as we were growing up. I hadn't been there for a meal for some years as we found somewhere else that became our regular so I went with some reluctance at the suggestion of my father. However, I was very pleasantly surprised - the decor doesn't seem to have changed(old style) but the food has. It was superb. They specify at the door that it is all home cooked food. Reviews for The Marsden Inn

Our meals were brought to the table very quickly, the service was fast but friendly. The food was lovely and there was plenty of it, even the kids meal that we ordered. The main thing I noticed was that all our meals were home cooked and cooked well, they weren't just heated in a bag and then bashed out onto the plate. I noticed another table had ordered a pasta dish and it was huge so I will be returning soon to sample that and hopefully next time one of their desserts. Oh, and the toilets were very clean, and there is plenty of parking space outside.

It has been many years since I was last in The Marsden Inn, located in South Shields. My uncle was the last to take me about 8 years ago. I loved the place back then and if it hasn’t changed, I’d love it now. There is an elevator which goes straight through the rock of the cliff on which the pub resides, which was always fun as a child. They serve some good food and the fish and chips are particularly nice, as you might expect from a coastal town. There’s a whole variety of drinks on offer which are all priced reasonably well. I do recommend this place if you’re passing.

We went recently, three of us, for Saturday lunch, and it was excellent. Nicely cooked and plenly of it. Definately recommended. Gets very busy
