Reviews for Western Park Museum

We recently went to this fabulous museum after it underwent a major refurbishment thanks to some lottery money I think.

The whole place is just so well thought out. Lots of different sections and educational facilities is nicely varied to cater for children of all ages.
There's a nice cafe there with outdoor seating for the summer. Just outside the museum is a park which again, nicely done up and just wonderful to walk around with a stroller.

Having lived in Sheffield for 3 years as a student without taking much notice of this wonderful museum, it came to quite a suprise to realise what a great place it was after taking a trip whilst I was visiting friends.

Situated in a rather handsome and majestic buidling within the grounds of Weston Park (opposite the Children's Hospital), this compact museum offers a variety of exhibitions for all ages, largely centred around history, many of which are hands on, and all for free.

The heritage and history of Sheffield section is extemely interesting whether you a local or not. Particularly the display of 1980's toys.

The actual venue is light and airy with a modern feel and plenty of space to wander about without impacting on others.

There is also the obligatory souvenir shop selling a vast quantity of good.

Definately well worth a visit in my opinion.

This is an awesome place to visit for people of all ages. The food is quite expensive so try to take a packed lunch with you. I like the musuem because it is not old and stuffy its really modern with plenty of light and the things on display are often modern themes like global warming and local neighbourhoods. Displays of toys from the 80's and living rooms from the yesteryear. I love the bees that have a real hive in the museum. But don't worry they can't sting because they are behind a glass display. I heard that quite a lot of these had died off - i really hope this isn't the case. There is a lot of modernisation and cleaning of the old pond in Weston Park too.

I have only recently discovered this amazing place, after living for years in the City and spending a lot of my time opposite in the Childrens Hospital as a child.
This Museum has free entrance for everyone and is set within the most beautifully landscaped park. There is plenty of space for the kids to have a run around or for adults just to sit and relax. What I found amazing is that even though its in the heart of the city it is still so peaceful!
The museum itself has various different sections relating to different decades in History, it reminds me a lot of the National History Museum..but on a lot lesser scale. There is a section about the history of Sheffield that I found very interesting. The only downside are the prices in the cafe if you would like food. Howver I suppose if your admission is free you don't mind paying more for food.
