Reviews for Swagat
I'm amazed at the comments on Swagat by Mr Pietersen. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but its simply untrue to say beers cost £5! We had a very good meal - not the best Indian I've ever had, but I'd happily eat there again. We cook a lot of Indian food at home so do know our spices etc. Recommend the chicken in fenugreek!
This was a horrible experience for our dinner party. It is not considered authentic indian food. Very bland food and not much spices used. So its not really an indian restaurant. Don't order the main course dishes as starter dishes because the portions are very small and way overpriced for what you get. You will be shocked at the bill when it arrives! Also, the wine list is horrible. Beers are 5 pounds which are expensive. Crowded seating arrangements.
We live in Richmond and having walked past Swagat so many times in the summer, we finally decided to give it a try yesterday evening after reading multiple good reviews on this place.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was delicious - my boyfriend who loves Indian food says it is the best he's had so far both in London AND Malaysia.
We had a Paneer (cheese) dish and the lamb chop curry. Both were very tasty. The lamb was very tender and the paneer was nothing like we have ever tasted before. The texture was nice and soft and the taste was really good and creamy.
Price was also reasonable (honestly a bit upmarket as we are used to eating cheaper food but for the quality and location, it is fair)
In short, we had a great evening and we would definitely come back again soon!
I rarely eat Indian food. I like it, but it doesn't like me. But when I kept reading good reports about a new Indian restaurant called Swagat, located just down the road from my place, curiosity got the better of me.
We arrived to a warm greeting from the smiling staff, and enjoyed their friendly, courteous service throughout our meal. The menu was more up-market than your standard curry house and there was plenty that caught our eye.
In the end we ordered one starter, two main courses, rice and naan. My favourite dish was the starter, Aloo Tikki Chaat, which was Spiced potato cake served on a bed of tangy chickpeas, very delish. In fact, all the food was excellent, the chicken and lamb curries were not at all oily, with well marinated, very tender meat.
The portion sizes were generous, and as we waddled home we were very pleased to have discovered another excellent Richmond restaurant.
