Reviews for Tapas y Vino - CLOSED
tapas are simple dishes. it's really difficult to mess it up.
i am sorry but our experience here was disappointing to say the least. food was generally poor in taste and clearly warmed up hurriedly (apart from the tortilla which took 25 minutes to make). the carpaccio of foi gras was served so cold it was stuck (literally) to the plate. the hamon served was rancid not to mention we paid over £5 for 4 tiny slices. bread is not served unless you ask for it (is this a tapas bar?) and even then they only will serve pitta (spanish?) and take 15 minutes to serve 1 pitta grilled up. churros were stale and the waiter was not aware they were to be served with chocolate as per the menu. yes also service was shocking and amateurish with dishes forgotten, waiters no where to be seen and the same 3 gipsy kings songs being played over and over. gave us the feeling these people did not really know what they were doing.
if you just want a place to have a drink and nibble on something and are not too fussed about your food ... please be aware that these people are targeting just you. and will make you pay for it!!
A while back we had a great meal at Tapas y Vino in Twickenham, so when a new branch opened in Kew we thought we should check it out, arranging to meet friends there for dinner.
Tapas y Vino serve up Mediterranean Tapas, offering a mixture of traditional and specialty dishes. The décor has a Mediterranean theme, and this new Kew restaurant is less cramped than its Twickenham sibling. Service was mixed - the manager was friendly, whilst the other staff less so.
We started with some Olive bread, Pitta bread, Aubergine Pate and Spanish cured Iberian Jabugo ham. The pate was more like a dip, but went down just fine smeared on some pitta.
We moved on to the hot tapas then, starting with the Chicken & Tarragon Croquettes, the Monkfish knobs 'cheeks' with capers and butter sauce, and the Oxtail in red wine with creamy potato. The Oxtail was my favourite of the three - very flavoursome. Next we had the Roast crisp suckling pig, the Scallops with risotto and squid ink sauce, and the Tajine of aromatic chicken, cumin & preserved lemon. The stand out here was the Scallops and the creamy squid ink risotto.
Dessert was on the agenda, and we all had the same thing - the Hot chocolate and almond bastilla. This is a flaky pastry parcel filled with oozy chocolate mixed with almonds. And yes, it is as good as it sounds!
