Reviews for Bacco Ristorante Italiano

In these times of Carluccio's, Zizi's, Pizza Express, Strada etc, here is a quality Italian restaurant. The ingredients are excellent, the presentation is very good and the service polite. Because of the vinotecca alongside, the wine list offers up some of the best Italian wines available. This place isn't cheap but I think it represents real value for money. You definitely get what you pay for with Stefano. We are talking serious restauranteurs here and there aren't enough of them around in London generally.

P.S. I am English, not Italian, so please don't interpret my words as being in any way partisan!

An impromptu Friday night dinner out found us at a small Italian restaurant called Bacco, in Richmond. Bacco is family run, with an authentic Italian feel. The dining room is split across 4 different areas, and we sat in the more modern looking section to the right of the entrance. In summer there is a seating area out the front which I am sure is very popular.

The menu had a decent mix of pastas, meat and fish, and the wine list had a great selection of Italian wines from across the country. Service was brisk and efficient, with an extra smile for the regulars.

The food got off to a good start - we shared the Warm duck salad, with crispy pancetta & almonds, which was nicely presented and a good blend of flavours. Mains were less successful - we had the Pan roasted cod fillet with spinach & honey glazed carrots, and the Oven roasted quail with porcini risotto & creamy leek & saffron sauce. Both used good ingredients but somehow missed the mark.

For dessert we had the Almond nougat parfait with caramel sauce, and the Vanilla panna cotta with pear poached in saffron syrup. The panna cotta was disappointing and its accompanying pear rather flavourless, though the parfait was the right combination of nuts and creamy goodness.
