I went to the Cerise really wanting to like it. It's in a nice location, and the menu on the web site looked fantastic. The restaurant itself is very tastefully decorated, and the staff are good, taking their time to look after you.

I had a great meal there, with one of the best steaks I have eaten in a long time, and a really nice goats cheese ice cream for desert - I was attracted by the unusualness, and wasn't let down. My only gripe though was the selection on the menu. I don't eat seafood, and I am not too partial to offal. Unfortunately, about 75% of the menu was seafood or offal, and out of the remainder, all that I really fancied was the steak - which, lets face it, is a bit of a boring cliche. I like to try new dishes (just not seafood or liver), and I am always a bit let down when steak is the only thing that I fancy on a menu. That said, though, it really was a good steak.

Overall, well worth a visit, but it's not going to be at the very top of my list.

The Cerise is a lovely little restaurant tucked away in a quiet part of Reading town centre at the bottom of the Forbury Hotel.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a lovely relaxed cosy atmosphere, you really feel as if you've been transported from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The staff are warm and welcoming, service is quick and excellent, as it should be for a restaurant in an upmarket hotel.

The food served here is excellent although the menu can be a little sparse for vegetarians. Price wise it's pretty expensive, but worth every penny! Food is presented beautifully and the portions are just right, not too filling which leaves room for the delicious puddings.

If you want a quiet lunch or dinner this is definitely the place to go.
