7 Queens Walk, Reading, RG1 7QF

Tucked down an unpromising looking side street, Aangan is well worth seeking out. Conveniently located near to the Hexagon theatre for pre or post theatre supper. Aangan serves delicious vegetarian Indian food but it’s definitely worth a visit even for confirmed meat-eaters like Thomsonspier below. The restaurant is bright and well lit with two distinct seating areas.

The menu is divided into North and South Indian cuisine, I was advised by the waiter to try the southern menu to start with. Having tried some dishes from this half of the menu I will definitely be going back to sample North Indian cuisine.

Aangan serves very reasonably priced, excellent food. Highly recommended.

As a hardened carnivore, I was slightly dismayed when I noticed the vegetarian nature of the place only after being seated and ordering a drink. It seems that I needn't have worried.

The food is excellent and natural, not laden with the usual artificial colours and flavourings that seem prevalent in a great many Indian restaurants but flavoursome and well cooked. Neither is the menu populated with the usual fare, but rather a selection of dishes split into Northern and Southern Indian origin.

Seeing our confusion, the waiter offered to order for us, producing a delicious meal which was tasty, satisfying and unlike anything I had previously tried. I gather that the food is more authentic than the Anglicised versions of dishes that can be more easily found and it is well worth seeking out.

The meal represented excellent value, especially for the quality of the food, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I have been back since and plan to return again.

The food here is very good and is different from the standard fare offered in Indian restaurants.
I recommend the gobi Manchurian, chilli mushrooms, chana masala and dosas. I usually just want to order a number of starters as they are so fantastic.
The first time we went the service was not very good but it has improved immensely and the food has always been excellent.
