Reviews for Il Gusto Corn Stores
I have been to the restaurant upstairs in this establishment but never to the bar downstairs. It’s a deceptively big room upstairs which made it seem rather quiet on the evening myself and my partner arrived. It turned out it was actually quite busy but there were only 2 members of staff on. Despite this, the service was fairly good, although we were left without cutlery and given the ridiculously large pepper grinder to use ourselves – I had to stand up to use it!
The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Strangely for an Italian restaurant, the best dish for us was the Greek, stuffed vine leaves!
This is one of the best italian restaurants that I have been to.
The food is excellent and the portions are very generous. I love their pepper grinder!! Food came switly and it was very tasty and very authentic.
The restaurant's deco was very nice and it was very original as well. the tables, chairs and everything seems to fit very well together and kin of reminds you of an osteria.
waitress was very helpful and have a lovely smiling face, which makes it a very nice experience dining there. any additional orders came swiftly and the choice of wine is great.
Highly recommeded.
Not that far form Reading train station is a little Italian restaurant, which also has a good Greek menu, which is above a sort of Irish themed pub, run by a couple of Egyptians. Confused? Don't be, just order up a beer, and kick back, in a great little pub.
The Cornstores was my port of call for beers and food after a long day in the office for nearly 6 months. Downstairs there is a small bar (all of 8 feet across), with big leather sofas, small tables, and a great big bloke behind the bar called Hanni. The little bloke standing next to him is called... Hanni. Big Hanni and Little Hanni will happily serve you a decent pint, and if you take them up on the offer of food, the pizzas are brilliant. Thin crusts, spicy toppings, served fairly quickly, they are excellent. I've had a few of the pasta dishes too, and they were all good too.
Once you've finished, Hanni (either really) will generally turn up and try and get you to take him up on the offer of a water pipe (sheesha), which is always a pleasent way to round the evening off. Its also some of the smoothest sheesha I've smoked too, because they use the metal hoods over the coals to mean they burn quietly.
The restaraunt upstairs is generally very quiet, but serves the same excellent food and beers. I imagine you can have sheesha up there too, but I've never asked.
