I love the layout of this pub and the ambience. Plenty of tables so can cater for small and large group or couples. You need to book at busy times, in my experience.

Good selection of wines, beers and other drinks as you would expect. Great selection of meals and it's tasty, well prepared and good value for money.

There's a beer garden to enjoy all those balmy Summer days that we enjoy here in England....lol!

It's a good place to go for Christmas meals too.

I visited here as part of a large group this week (Aug 2008). The atmosphere is jovial and the staff friendly. We were able to enjoy a drink at the bar before being seated and ordering our meals. Unlike other gastro pubs, the Fitzwilliam has waiter service. They have a good menu with red meat, fish and fowl. They also had specials on the chalkboard that had two vegetarian choices.
The service was affeicient, but I was dismayed when my side dish did not arrive. However the quality of the food was good and real ales are served, which lead to a good night for all. Starters are around £5, mains from around £7 upwards and desserst around the £4 mark meant that this did not burn a serious hole in anyone's pocket.
