Reviews for Jamal's
I'm afraid that my Jamal's experience wasn't the best. I went there for a curry with a friend, and the chicken in it was still pink in the middle. When I alerted the waiter, he tried to tell me that the colour was "because of the spices". Last time I looked, the spices colour the outside of the meat, not the inside. And anyway, since when was korma pink?
Their solution was to take away my curry, cook the chicken for a bit longer, put it back in the korma and return the same to me. I should have put my foot down but just wanted to get on and get out.
This experience was only partially offset by the fact that they have an elephant - and by hearing the story of how a group of students made off with it shortly after my memorable meal there.
At first I wondered what could make this place so popular with students; the food was mid range prices e.g. £8ish for a dish. Later I was told that it is in fact a bring-your-own, although they do have a corkage charge which I'm afraid I didn't find out.
I had a cheapo meat curry which was ok, a friend had sag alou and this king prawn dish, both of which were delicious.
Atmosphere was lively, loud and busy. It was a fun night out (Friday) and would have been cheap had we known about the BYO!
