The Ashmolean Museum of Art & Archaeology was founded in 1683 and is one of the oldest public museums in the world. The collection presented to the University of Oxford by Elias Ashmole (1617-1692) was already half a century old in origin at this time and the contents were universal in scope, with man-made and natural specimens from all around the world. They also have a cafe area and a shop.
