To avoid confusion, it should be emphaised this venue is now know as the 02 academy, Oxford (formerly also Carling Academy, Oxford) and is not in central Oxford but a short way out of town.

I gather the place is primarily used as a venue for gigs. On yet another Oxford based hen party, I brought the hens here on a Saturday night as the bride and her party quite liked alternative and wished to avoid the typical dance/towny type places.

They played a good few classic rock and metal floor fillers, but toward the end played stuff we really didn't know and were refused our requests on the grounds that they were too old for our crowd, though I'll admit I did feel like an oldie and I'm only 26...

Prices for everything were reasonable. People were relatively friendly. Floor was a bit sticky, but then thats the drunk students on a Saturday and cheap alco-pop combo for you!

If you want a kind of indie, gothic, rock night out in a fowl smelling grimey club with sticky floors and a load of lads 'moshing' on the dance floor then this place is for you! Many male students in oxford love this place for those very reasons. I didn't like it as thats not my kind of night out but it is generaly well respected amongst students. They often have live bands playing there (some quite famous ones) so look out of tickets to these events. Drinks were not overpriced for a nightclub but served in plastic cups of course! Girls, take your own loo roll in your bag with you.
