Was at the Perch recently for a very special family occasion which had been booked for a long time and feel completely let down and utterly disappointed! The service was awful as was the food but I will get onto that later...
It was for my grandparents 60th wedding anniversay and we had told the staff this previously yet from the moment we walked in they made no effort to make us feel welcome.
To start, we were told that both the white and the red wines we ordered were not available, no apology was given, just a shrug of the shoulders to tell us to get on with it. So, we decided to sit back for a while and take in the atmosphere while we waited for our drinks, only to hear christmas music playing in the background! I love christmas but over 3 months away from christmas I thought this was ridiculous and only added to their couldn't care less attitude, I assume no-one had checked!
When the wines did arrive, they poured a glass for us each and for the rest of the meal my father had to act as waiter as no effort was made to top up our glasses, shocking when you look at the prices they charge.
We were a big party and everyone seemed ok about their starters, however the mains were awful. Some people had the steak and at paying over £16 for it you'd expect it to be edible. My boyfriend is not a fussy eater unyet he was unable to finish it. Chewy and tasteless were the words used. Many of us had the shellfish, some of which had to be sent back as none of the shells were open! Once i got round to tasting them it tasted like a bit of seafood in water!
When we got round to cutting the cake, we had to use napkins to hand it out at first as no plated were given.

It was my grandparents special day and would have at least expected the staff to wish them a happy anniversary or perhaps give them a glass of bubbly to make up for their inept performance but nothing was forthcoming.

It took the shine off what was supposed to be a very memorable day for us all and will never return here again.

I will give you a tip watch how some of the staff handle your glass (beer lager) you will notice as they pour your beer some of them seem to put special effort into rubbing the top of the glass where you drink from with (usually the forefinger on the right hand). The same finger is kept well away from the glass when serving friends or other staff. You may well speculate where this finger has been before(typically sweaty butt crack)but I have heard of this being done before by disaffected staff who in some pathetic way feel the need to get back at customers or maybe the management. Any way be aware I know I don't want to drink from a deliberately soiled glass. This behaviour is usually exhibited by the young male antipodean members of staff. If they hate poms so much why don't they bugger off back home
you have been warned

Just back from Sunday Lunch at the Perch. Substandard and insolent management. Avoid!

Lackluster ambiance and service and terrible food heavily overpriced for what it is.

The bar offers an ok wine list but only two mediocre Ales and three draft export lagers.

A Sunday Roast Main for £14.00, with badly cooked meat, finger-thick undercooked swede and carrot batons, a single roast potato (suspiciously like the ones from the freezer...), a floppy Yorkshire pudding and some watery gravy. Very disappointing.

The menu only has 5 mains, one is vegetarian. Basically some couscous wrapped in a bit of paper thin aubergine slices. A spoonful of tomato sauce - £12.00! Lacks any seasoning. A very unsatisfying dish.

The response from the manager/chef(?) to our criticism is utterly inappropriate. We were berated to appreciate that "a vegetarian dish is on the menu in the first place" and that it uses organic vegetables which is expensive. I buy only organic myself and my educated guess is that the produce on my plate was worth £3.00 at most. A 9 quid mark-up for the 'luxury' of a vegetarian dish?!

Don't go. Much better service, value and most importantly food can be had at Pierre Victoire or Brasserie Blanc in Jericho, only some 15 minutes walk away from the Perch. and that for the same price - if not less!
