I think this business had been put in the wrong category but here goes.

This is the best restaurant of this type I have been in, ever! Bit of back ground. I am a trained Chef, have a bronze medallion award for my food and have worked in some of the finest kitchens in Europe. I have eaten all over the world and have tried nearly everything. I most certainly do not work for them, but this type of establishment needs praising.

So, moving to Nuneaton was a bit of a shock....

So, moving to Nuneaton was a bit of a shock. No decent food places to speak of, until you come across the "Gurkha".

Owned by a chap called "Om" who was a former Sgt Major at the local Army barracks (where the Gurkha regiment is based) and is located in the centre of Nuneaton.

The restaurant is non-plussed and typical of the Asian type. It is busy with regular customers most nights, but at the weekend, it gets really full. Internal decor is full of Army shields and regimental regalia, plus a nice photo of the owner receiving his MBE from the Queen.

The staff are all serving or ex soldiers, plus the owners family members. They are smart and turned out immaculately.

On to the food. If you have never had Nepalese food, then a brief guide would be Indian crossed with Chinese, but with one big difference, the taste!

The menu has lots of variety and good descriptions. They range from traditional fare (Nepal) to some specially created for English tastes.

Ordering a starter or a main course you will find a wait of about 25-30 minutes, why? Because it is all cooked fresh, no pre-made sauces, everything is cooked to order, that is the deal, you wait for it and find there's no disappointment.

My favorite starters are either the Chili Sausages and the meatballs in tomato sauce.

Main courses are rated in a 1-5 chili sign. If you want something that will knock your socks off, go for a four chili, a five chili is for the pro's.

Bramcote special, mountain beef or my favorite of Piro Kisani Lamb leaves you wanting to take some home.

The nan bread (papads) are to die for, I have never tasted bread like it. So moist and fresh.

If you want a late night bite, then this is a great place to go. As the staff are all serving or ex-serving Gurkha soldiers, it is a place where lads never get rowdy! One 1000 yard stare from the owner and even the biggest loud mouth behaves themselves.

The Crossed Khukris is very reasonably priced and it is a complete experience eating there.

Before you go, there menu is on om's own website, http://www.omsrestaurant.com/
