Reviews for Keans Head
I went to the Keane's Head expecting a lovely pub. Instead I found a dirty, unfriendly pub which felt more like a canteen or youth hostel. The tables were filthy - covered in spilled wax, beer, sugar etc. The staff were unpleasant and unhelpful. The atmosphere was dismal for a saturday night.
Also, "Belgian beer menu" is limited (having lived in Belgium for 10 years, I am definitely qualified to judge this). Other choice is okay.
All in all, don't bother on a saturday night. Have heard food is okay though. Try the pubs nearby instead.
Part of the Castle Rock Brewery estate, the Kean's Head offers great food and a large selection of quality ales, foreign beers and wines. A good place to meet up before a Panthers game or event at the TrentFM Arena or a night out.
As of Jan 2009, their pub opening times are:
Sun 12pm – 10.30pm
Mon-Thurs 10.30am – 11pm
Fri & Sat 10.30am – 12.30am
Food Times:
Sun – Mon 12 – 5pm
Tues – Fri 12 – 9pm
Sat 10.30am – 9pm
A smoke free pub long before smoking was banned, this little gem of a pub is hidden away in the back streets of the lace market.
It serves a good selection of real ales, including Kriek on draft. There also seems to be a fair selection of foreign bottled beers.
The menu is peculiar and fussy eaters need not bother, but if you fancy something a bit different and don't mind paying a bit extra then it's worth a try. The desserts are good, full stop!
Lovely atmosphere and I've never had trouble getting a seat despite it being the teeniest pub I've ever been in!
