Reviews for Jesmond Dene House
I went to Jesmond Dene House with quite a large group of friends. usually that would be a bit of an issue in a more respectable place, but not so here. We were welcomed with open arms. I've been here with just my partner and we were treated exactly the same. The service here is refreshingly friendly and i can't rate it highly enough. The bar area does have a few people who love themselves but we just ignore them! The food is fantastic and the menu choice is quite varied so everyone will find something they enjoy. Prices are a little more than the average place, but still well worth it
I visited Jesmond Dene House with a large group of friends. The bar area where we waited for our table was very nice, cosy seats, good atmosphere. The restaurant itself is very nice also, very attentive staff, nice ambience. Lovely outdoor area to have coffee at when weather permits. Food was fab, locally sourced which is important. Excellent wine menu. Everyone was happy with their food without exception. Would go back and would highly recommend. Only negative comment would be that some of the other guests in the bar were a bit pretentious, but hey, they cant help themselves!
Visited jesmond dene house twice for dinner and had a very pleasant meal, no real faults other than it was mabe a little quiet on the evening we chose, there was no background music which made it feel as if our conversation was being overheard and the staff which were very attentive seemed ready to pounce at every opportunity and round every corner which made you feel a bit on edge but apart from that food was very nice, quite small portions but istnt that the fashion these days in in fine dining restaurants? Surroundings and bar lounger were beautifull and very cosy and comfortable. Quite pricey but i dont mind paying for good food and good service.
Booking for dinner at The Jesmond House is essential, as it is usually packed. This is not surprising, since Newcastle isn't exactly blessed with top-notch eateries on every corner. And here lies the problem... Jesmond Dene House is too popular for its own good. The dining rooms present very well, but once filled with noisy customers all the charm of the location evaporates.
The menu is a tad dated, but then again this IS Newcastle and the proprietors clearly understand precisely what the locals will pay for. The service too was somewhat old-school; way too attentive for my liking, verging on obsequiously fawning and delivered in the most part by VERY young staff.
Despite these small parochial negativities the food was mostly good; small portions, attractively presented and extremely tasty. However, one of my guests ordered a well-done steak, and went to the trouble to explain precisely what she meant by well done, and sadly she was served the meat medium-rare. At this level, this is unacceptable.
