Reviews for Big Mussel

I’ll be up front with you from the start here; sea food is certainly not my friend. This is what I learned when I ate a Big Mussel. When I got home after eating out here, I was being physically sick. STOP, KEEP READING!!! Let me just say that I’m NOT saying that you shouldn’t eat here because their food is off or anything, this was just my own reaction to sea food. If you like sea food then I’m sure you’ll absolutely love this place. My friends who were there with me that night had exactly what I had and they loved every last bit of it.

I had lunch here on a recent visit to Newcastle. I thought the food was great, the service friendly and the price very, very reasonable.

I've been a huge fan of the Big Mussel for years now. Despite the somewhat uninviting exterior you can be sure of excellent food.

As the name suggests, they specialise in seafood and the signature dishes are always based on 1kg servings of mussels. However, they serve many other types of fish based food (amazing fish and chips, and a superb smoked haddock risotto) and also vegetarian and meat dishes. There's also a Belgian theme with various continental beers available.

They really know their food as well, even advising you to avoid certain fish at times of year when they aren't at their best.

Service is always good, and the prices are very reasonable. There are usually promotions of one kind or another and often represent excellent value.

Although this branch is based at the Quayside, there is another on Leazes Park Road which gets very busy when Newcastle Utd are playing at home.
