Dene’s Deli is located in a picturesque spot in Jesmond Dene which immediately gives it an edge over other sandwich shops – there are plenty of places close to have a nice sit down and enjoy your food!

The first thing I noticed about the Deli is the size of the menu, there is simply so much choice, I took an age to finally pick what I wanted (and I must also say I popped in soon after finishing my first to get my second choice also!).

The staff are friendly and the sandwiches of a real good standard. Prices are very reasonable especially when you consider the amount of filling that goes in to them

Would highly recommend to anyone!

Dene's Deli is almost an institution for those in the know. It's pretty difficult to get a decent sandwich sometimes - either the choice is limited, (especially if you happen to be vegetarian or have other dietary consideratons) or you know they've been made hours earlier and are just sitting around feeling sorry for themselves.

This is where Dene's Deli comes into its own. All sandwiches are hand made in front of you and the choice of fillings and combinations is unbelievable - seriously this is the kind of place where you can have roast beef with avocado and chilli if that's what you want! In fact if you can pick the combination they can make it for you. Oh and did i mention there's a chice of about 6 types of bread?

In fact one of the downsides of Dene's deli is just all that choice - what to choose? It's the kind of place that is always busy and the queues are often out of the door but there is always a shop full of staff so you get seen to pretty quickly. In fact I often have to let people in the queue go before me as I am still dithering over what to have!!

Staff are freindly, nothing too much trouble and the portions inside the bread are huge...so go on and give your taste buds a treat!

I like nothing better than a coronation chicken sandwich and Dene's Deli gives me a regular fix when it comes to satisfying this desire. I've tried a handful of the sandwiches from here and I’ve not been disappointed by a single one of them. The place is clean and service is fast. Of the sandwiches, i recommend the coronation chicken, chicken salad and garlic chicken (yes, i like chicken quite a lot). This place is perfect if you work near it and want somewhere to go for your lunch. The price is good, the service is quick and the food is excellent. I highly recommend Dene's Deli.

There are many sandwich shops using factory produced fillings, arranged in plastic trays, looking just like every other sandwich shop in the country. Dene's isn't one of them. Though I've never actually been into the shop itself (because I take part in a mass order into the office every single day) I can only imagine it of a hive of activity.

The range of fillings is massive. Every one is a hand picked mix, and as well as all the regular stuff (BLT's, chicken etc etc) there are some complete stars in there. I love Houmous, Jarlsberg & Organic Sundried Tomato Paste, Chicken & Sri Lankan Lime Pickle & Jalapenos and the surprisingly tasty Vegetarian Paté & Coleslaw.

Their massive combo sandwiches are great too. Who couldn't love the names Reggie the Veggie (Vegetarian Paté, Aubergine, Coleslaw) and Buzzard’s Breath (Polish Sausage, Egg Mayonnaise, Garlic Mayonnaise, Chilli).

The bread range is good (mini stotties* in wholemeal, white, granary, sunflower wholemeal, ryeknot, tortilla wrap, pitta bread, poppyseed knot, sliced bread , italian ciabatta, or white or brown mixed seed plait) never mind the bagels or gluten free bread. It's always fresh and fluffy, and the healthier ones with bits and seeds in are super tasty.

If you work in the city, why not get an order sheet together an phone it thorugh. For 3 quid, you can't do much better.

*A stottie is a big bread bun from the North East you funny Southern folk.
