32 Close, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 3RF

One of the oldest buildings on Newcastle's quayside remains one of it's best pubs and clubs.

The cosy little bar downstairs serves a nice range of well priced beers and maintains a great atmosphere most nights of the week.

The club upstairs is a bit more of a mixed bag depending on which night you arrive. Despite numerous changes in management over the years, a Monday night down at the Coop is still your best bet for an exciting mix of danceable indie tunes and local lives acts. As mentioned in the other review it's quite a unique building inside, so you'll have to watch your head on a few of the old low wooden door frames, but you can't beat drinking to unbeatable views of the Tyne through it's time decayed windows upstairs.

Has been graced by some cool bands in it's time - check it out, it won't dissapoint!

The Cooperage is one of Newcastle’s best kept secrets. Located on the quayside with many great bars and pubs in close proximity it is a great place to start or end a night.

There is a large pub downstairs which stocks a great variety of drinks for a small price. There is then another room on the middles floor with a bar and a final 3 rooms on the 3rd level. There is a large dance floor and a room with comfortable seats in to chill out in. The décor inside is great, one of the only buildings on the quayside to have not been rejuvenated keeping many of its original assets such as wooden beams and thin stair cases (although the latter can prove hard to traverse after a long night of drinking).

It plays a large variety of music and contains very friendly staff and people, highly recommended.
