Reviews for The Union Rooms
I love The Union Rooms! The building itself is absolutely beautiful and very grand, with a lovely wide staircase sweeping into the reception and up to the second floor. It's totally unique, with a range of rooms with ample seating and even an old library room, complete with old books! The food and drinks are very reasonably priced, starting from £1.70 for a spirit & mixer, with numerous food offers too. In the summer in the main bar area, the huge windows are often opened, which lets a lovely breeze enter the bar and gives you a lovely view of Newcastle's Central Station. Being so close to the station, it's an ideal pub to visit if you're waiting for a train or have just arrived in the city.
The Union Rooms are near to Central Station in Newcastle and it's a wetherspoons pub so drinks and food are excellent value! It's a great place to start the night (as you'll guess around 7.30pm on a Friday or Saturday if you're packed in there!) for the cheap drinks and is a gorgeous building with a huge sweeping staircase! There are several bars within it and a big upstairs area. There is even a little library type room on the right when you go in which is quiet and unique! The toilets are lovely (and dark which always helps!). All in all a lovely, cheap and cheerful place to have a drink! (and their curries are nice too!)
The Union Rooms is a fantastic listed building currently in use as a weatherspoons. There are several rooms inside each with their own distinct character. There are two bars downstairs, and one upstairs. There is a traditional dark wood Weatherspoons style room at the front, and a glass roofed room to the back which is very light and great in all weathers and seasons. There are also mens and ladies loos, and a front 'family' room for food, although food can be consumed anywhere in the building. Upstairs there are three food rooms, and a more open room with the bar in. There is a magestic sweeping split staircase connecting the two floors. The food is the standard Weatherspoons fare, cheap, hearty grub on offers and 2 for 1 deals. The drinks are extremely reasonable, and Spoons is a popular place to start the night in Newcastle. The atmosphere is really relaxed, and as a result The Union Rooms draws a very mixed crowd.
The Union rooms is a wetherspoons pub situated near the station, it is a giant place with numerous different rooms, I quite like bars that take some exploring so this is right up my street, the prices are very cheap for food and drinks with the normal wetherspoons tradtion being stuck to in this pub, this bar is probably best for watching a Saturday lunchtime game with a fry up while recovering from the Friday, a students paradise no less, only down side is that the clientele obviously come for the prices so can be a bit rough with numerous drunks around the place, never really seen any trouble though so this is just a minor fault, this place is far from the greatest bar but it does exactly what it sets out to do, cheap food and drink in a massive building ina good location, enjoy.
This wetherspoons establishment seems to have been sitting just opposite the central station for as long as the old union rooms building itself. Welcoming weary travellers across for a cheap and varied drink selection, including a great rotation of english ales (especially if you get down during one of it's many beer festivals), well priced pub grub and an always easy going atmos, you really can't go wrong with a pint in here - whether your days ending or your nights just beginning.
It's a big place as well, with two bars downstairs and one up, although upstairs doesn't have as much space for general drinking as it does tables for food. Downstairs there's a big screen for all the big games and even a smaller library room for the more chillaxed crowd, among spoonsies labrynthian beery corridors!
All in all a good all round pub.
Hi the union rooms is part of the wetherspoons chain so has a good reputation. it is a great spot to start a night out in newcastle as its just down the road from the central station and is set in a old stately home (i think) which is beautifully decorated. it shows most of the big football matches so its easy drag the blokes for a night out on match days, and best of all the restaurant serves lovely food just up the stairs so he can buy you a meal too. all in all its a lovely place with great service good food and most importantly cheap drinks!
The Union Rooms located in Newcastle upon Tyne is a superb pub. Situated within a grand building just opposite Newcastle’s central station it provides the perfect setting for a relaxed drink. It has many different rooms in various themes catering for everyone’s tastes.
Being part of the wetherspoons chain it provides a great selection of varied food and drinks at prices which will not break the bank. The staff are friendly and provide fast, outstanding service. There is a relaxed atmosphere within the pub, it plays no music but does have various sporting events on the televisions. There are also numerous clean toilets within it.
The union rooms in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne are, to me, a great place for a few drinks. By this I mean that it is the kind of place where I go to have a few drinks at the start of a good night out. The building in which the venue is set is quite unique. Like many buildings in Newcastle, it is a distinctive mix between old and modern which adds a charm to the place which you just don't get anywhere else. Generally, it has a good atmosphere and is an enjoyable place to have a drink though the staff sometimes seem as miserable as sin.
Easily one of my favourite places to go for food or drink, The Union Rooms is truly superb.
Located very close to Central Station and inhabiting one of the most impressive buildings in the area, it delivers the usual Wetherspoons quality while standing high above most of their other pubs.
The menu and offers are the same as everywhere else, but what truly makes The Union Rooms is its variety of seating areas, which include a family area and an upstairs area with a beautiful view of a nearby church and the most comfortable sofas in the world!!
A great place to stop for a quick drink or bite to eat; be careful though, you'll want to stay all day!
I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't like The Union Rooms, Wetherspoons run, this is a nicely converted building with a chilled atmosphere that makes you happy to spend a whole afternoon there.
It comes with the standard Wetherspoon food which is always tasty and filling, and also the drink selection is splendid.
If you are in Newcastle and looking for somewhere to stop for a quick drink, a long drink, a meal or an evening out, this is the place to go.
