I haven't been to Flares for years but found myself in there on Friday night and I had a great time! The place itself is pretty basic. Drinks are mega cheap for house spirits and you can buy an assortment of 'accessories' to enhance your evening such as afro wigs and elton john glasses! The crowd tend to be slightly older. We took to the dance floor straight away singing and dancing to 70s and 80s pop hits such as Nine to Five and Don't Stop Me Now. We stayed there for a full 2 hours! The...

The down side was the floor - I stuck to it and regularly had to pick bits of glass out of the sole of my shoes! All in all though I had a great time and would say it's great for a once in a while bop till you drop!

Let me start by saying Flares is not a cool place to be seen. There is no modern art on the walls, or hardwood floors. What Flares offers is a night of belt-your lungs out fun, where every song makes you want to dance. The clientelle are mostly those who remember the songs the first time around, but the drinks are always on offer if you're not too fussy about what day-glo pink concoction you have in your hand, and Flares provides a fantastic atmosphere if nothing else. For this reason it is always popular with large groups on hen weekends/birthdays etc. Music is loud, it's definitely not a place to go to chat! Very busy on a weekend so you may have to que to get in.

Probably more popular with the 30+ crowd, Flares is similar to other Flares' throughout the UK. It can be quiet early on but does liven up from 10pm onwards and stays lively until it closes in the early hours. The dancefloor is relatively small but you'll be amazed at how many people can actually fit onto it! The drinks are around the same price as you'll pay elsewhere in Newcastle centre. All in all, a popular haunt for those who aren't ready to hand their dancing shoes up yet and still like to go out, let their hair down and have a laugh!
