Manchester Piccadilly Station

Reviews for Manchester Piccadilly Station

Living in Macclesfield, the best place to go to other major cities is via the train. And I usually take the Virgin train to Manchester to spend my weekend. The station is evry spatious and very well maintained for a large station. The station has a variety of shops/fast food stores to keep you occupied if you arrive early or if you are hungry and just looking for a bite.

You get to choose from KFC, Burger King, Costa etc. All of them are decently maintained. The best thing is that there is even a large dining area to sit and enjoy the food.

While entering, a large LCD welcomes you with the trains that are there on the platform and the ones that are set to arrive. And on each platform, a TV lets you know the stops the particular train is going to make. This in particular is very convenient than to bother some other passanger who might/ might not know all the stations the train stops at.

Platforms 13 and 14 are further towards the back of the station. moving platforms like the ones found in Airports make it easier to get there. especially if you are in a rush. Lifts are provided at convenient places for those who have prams.

One of the best train stations that I've ever used. It has over 10 tracks all lined up, with large screens displaying train times, it is very hard to get confused over platforms, etc. If you do get confused, there is a lot of help available, for example, under the screens there is a customer service box where you can ask your questions. Tickets can be purchased easily with fast track collection ticket service machines opposite the train tracks - you can't miss it. There is always a regular voiceover telling you which trains are coming soon - although the voices aren't always too clear.

It is very easy to get to Manchester town centre from this station as it is just pretty much a straight route once you go out of the entrance with WHSmith and Superdrug on either side.

There are many shops you can go into whilst you wait for your train, for example Dr. Herb, WhSmith, Superdrug..or if you prefer something to eat, you aren't short of choices. Several times that I've used this train station, there have been people promoting certain products. Once I was lucky enough to get a cadburys bar!

With many train routes covered and staff on hand at all times, this is definitely one of the best stations I've used. Although it has to be said that I have never tried the metrolink service.

Outside the station, if you go down the escalators, there are a lot of taxis at your service. Although if you decide to get a taxi at a busy time, note that there will be a horrendously long taxi queue!

.. but a very nice one in comparison to many other big cities' major ones. A nice place to sit and get out of the bad weather if you're in the area, and otherwise a welcoming entrance/exit place (or indeed welcoming-place, for those meeting someone!).

One tip is you can take the free buses from the walkway /ramp exit that heads towards the city centre, if you want to get out of the rain, feeling lazy or in a rush. Also go upstairs and sit out of the way if you prefer to gaze peacefully rather than be swept up in the rush.

Wow cant believe i can actually review the station! A place I know oh so very well after spending almost every weekend travelling in to Manchester. So there are 14 tracks coming from all areas of the country. Manchester is easily accesible to all. For buying tickets at manchester you can take the queue or use the great self service machines which are quick and easy to use. You can also catch the metro train for free(with a train ticket), underneath the station (just take the escalator). Inside the station you'll find home to various shops such as Sainsbury's, WHSmith, Burger King and Thorntons.

This train station has 14 train tracks leading into it, and 4 underground connections which take you to the rest of Manchester. When you get off your train it's only a very short walk from the City Centre.

Should you need to purchase something quickly there is an Orange Shop (that sells Phones not Fruit), a WH Smith, a Thorntons Chocolate Shop and a couple of others, there is also a Burger King and a KFC, and a few other more healthy cafes, and an Arcade incase your going to be staying for a while waiting for a connecting Train.

If your in a rush there are instant ticket machines which are run by Virgin, don't be fooled though they do give tickets for the other Train Companies, you just select where your going, select if your an Adult or Child then choose if you want a return ticket and receipt and then just put your money in and it will print your ticket.
