Years ago, when I was growing up in Manchester, The Lime Tree on Lapwing Lane was a bit of a holy grail of restaurants in the area. There not being much competition in Manchester at the time, this wasn't much of an achievement in itself.
However, over the years, I've come back here time and again, and every single time it's still managed to outshine anywhere else. After spending an evening there with some friends on Saturday night, I can't think of anything that wasn't spot on.
From the relaxed, friendly yet professional service to the frankly astounding food, this was top-notch stuff from beginning to end. What we had, I won't go into - their menu revolves around the freshly available and seasonal, so when you go there (and go you should) it'll probably have changed...

Whatever you order, you can be assured that it'll come up to scratch.
And the bill? Well, I'm coming from London prices, so I was happily surprised. Well worth a trip up north in itself.
