Reviews for Wasabi
Wasabi is an excellent little find buried in Chinatown in Manchester. It serves sushi on a conveyer belt in Yo! Sushi style but for much better value with the same quality of food.
There are four basic choices on the set menu. Now, I hardly ever get set menus in restaurants because it seems to me that you only save a small amount of money and end up with a few dishes you don't really like, meaning you didn't really save any money after all. However, the flexibility offered in Wasabi makes it the perfect choice, because you have a set number of dishes of sushi (or sashimi or whatever) from the belt plus noodles or miso soup. You can eat out including drinks for under £20 a head, or under £15 if you've a smaller appetite - this is outstanding value for sushi!
I've spent so long going on about its value you probably think that the food can't be that great. On the contrary. They have all the usual dishes plus some of their own. The sushi is great and the noodles are FANTASTIC!
As for décor, the place is clean and minimalistic without the cheesy red and gold decorations you always used to get in Oriental restaurants. There's a big screen on one wall where they play Jpop (Japanese pop music) videos and the bizarrity of some of them should serve as a good talking point if a lull in the conversation pops up!
To summarise, if you love Japanese cuisine you'll love Wasabi. And if you're not yet familiar with Japanese cuisine this is an excellent way to try it without blowing the budget.
P.S. The only reason for the slightly lower rating for service is that like any "sushi-go-round", it's basically a self-service restaurant.
