Reviews for Indian Ocean
Food, service and atmosphere has always been excellent, a regular favourite with a group of us - definitely worth a visit !
Bland, badly seasoned food, slow service and way too many tables for a restaurant of its size. I'd go the the Dildar Tandoori about 5 doors down, far superior.
This place is superb. I found it whilst staying in Luton on business and was immediately impressed with the smart contemporary look, both outside & in. I visited on a Tuesday evening in January and as I arrived before 7pm the restaurant was quiet. By the time I finished at about 8pm there was a queue of people waiting for tables despite the fact that it is a relatively large concern. This may be partly explained by the special offer (as with most local curry houses I believe) on a Tuesday or Wednesday as you get a starter, main, side dish & rice + coffee for £9.95. Encouragingly, you were able to order anything from the full menu although a small number of dishes (king prawn etc) had a surcharge. I ordered the Indian Ocean special starter which was chicken strips in a thick sauce with onions & peppers and was absolutely delicious. My main course was Lamb Rezala and was the tastiest curry dish I have ever had and was accompanied by beautifully cooked Saag Oloo and fluffy mushroom rice. As I had a Cobra and a couple of popadums (which weren't included in the offer) the bill came to just over £15 which was an absolute steal. The curry scene in Luton is very competitive and I am sure there are many other fine restaurants nearby but I would doubt very much that any meet the combination of quality food and ambience that I experienced at the Indian Ocean. I would imagine that if you visited on the weekend you would definitely need to book and it won't be the cheapest meal but it is highly recommended.
This restaurant is located away from the town centre, which is not a bad thing at all if you know Luton! Parking can be difficult there as it is very popular, because the food is of such amazing quality. There is nowhere better in Luton. The naan breads are very very tasty indeed, and I would recommend having the buffet meal there, which is excellent value for money. The fish dishes are particularly nice and they also have a party room. There is plenty of veggie options available too. Ten out of ten for this great place to eat, would recommend to anyone. Also the atmosphere is very good after the refurbishment.
