Reviews for Japan Centre

Recently expanded into two shop lots, Japan Centre now offers not just a bigger variety of takeaway sushi than ever before, but also a great range of bento boxes, tempura, noodles, Japanese cakes and desserts and even a shelf of typical soft baked Japanese buns and breads!

I ADORE this place, adore the fact that they sell tasty brown rice sushi (which newly opened rival Yoshino* on Shaftesbury Avenue doesn't do) and adore their prices. Cannot believe that it only costs between £2-£3 per pack of 6 large pieces! Personally I also think Japan Centre's sushi is superior in terms of taste and quality; Yoshino's sushi just looks and tastes more watered down, and doesn't quite hit the spot in the same way.

As if this isn't a bargain enough in itself, they also slash prices shortly before closing time so you could get huge amounts of sushi for practically nothing. Will definitely be back over and over again!

*Yoshino Delicatessen used to operate downstairs in Japan Centre but has now relocated to 59 Shaftesbury Avenue and is no longer affiliated to them in any way*

I recently went to Japan Centre with some colleagues. We were all after some lovely Japanese cuisine, and it had been highly rated.

This was my first visit, but certainly it will not be my last. There is a good range of rolls, sashimi as well as other hot rice/noodle dishes.

The service was OK, but what was great was the speed and presentation of our Assorted Sashimi and beautiful hand rolls.

If you want good true Japanese food, at a reasonable price then you can't beat it!

I love the Japan Centre. Alot. It's random, authentic and eclectic. There's not many places that you can walk into and have a good and reasonably priced lunch, follow it with a trip to the sake and tea shop and then get your groceries. Oh, and you can book a flight to Japan in between. And buy some books, or some crockery. Fresh wasabi, anyone? It's expensive but it's a special treat and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Fresh takeaway sushi at very reasonable prices, homemade miso soup, quirky bakery products, I could go on and on. It's not glamorous but it's great. Give it a go.

I love the Japan Centre. Every time I go to the sushi counter I have to take a set amount of money with me, otherwise I just lose control and order everything.

I know exactly what you mean! And I always have to talk myself out of buying the fresh wasabi. Mmmmm. Want to go there now.

Upstairs there is a very expensive and good restaurant. The real gem is downstairs a Japanese grocery with strange looking drinks... One guy there offered us to try his own invention- a drink which was supposed to give us some super powers... well lets say we couldn’t lift any cars when we went out...
it is so great to wonder through products that you don't know what they are!
you need to be quick because it is very busy there. The best deal is to buy some sushi packs- they come in 6 pieces and they are very cheap about £2-3 pounds each- they are delicious! on a sunny day take them to the park!
Don't forget to ask for Wasabi it cost you extra...

If you really want to try the real japanese experience...then you have to go to the Japan Centre at least once. I love it as not only can you eat japanese food but you can also buy it and cook/make sushi at home!

The place is very basic, don't expect a very trendy restaurant but the food is good. And they sell all the japanese must have....japanese people say it's good, so it must be!

In the Japan Center on Picadilly you can find the best and cheapest sushi in town.
Go downstairs and you can buy take away for les than 6 pounds a meal.
