This should be a lovely place, with pretty hand-painted signs on the walls, a cool and airy vibe, tables on the pavement... but it's not. Let me list the ways.

For starters, a not very big falafel wrap is 5. A fiver should get you a lot more than this little round pitta flecked with houmous.

Secondly, despite the fact they only have one item on the menu, they stare at you in disbelief when you order, then wander off without acknowledging you. They take surliness to a whole new level.

Finally, they take ages. I repeat, they have ONE item on the menu. They have a big room staffed by at least four people, yet some elaborate procedure means everyone must touch your food at some point, preferably while staring into space and thinking about something else. Right in front of you.

When it arrives, it can be quite nice. Or it can be a disaster, depending whether the person who made it could be bothered filling it properly, or just stuffed things in one after the other. It's never completely satisfying.

Walk another five minutes up Portobello and go see Mr Falafel on Golborne Road. He's the best - the two do not even compare.

Hmm. Sounds like the put the price up...will take your advice and try Mr Falafel on Goldborne Road, which I have not spotted before. Great road though. Is it new? I guess I better check it out.

    Funny :)
Funny ha ha and funny weird, too.
The day before yesterday, I went in here for the first time. I have lots of clients in nearby that I've been past lots of times. And I keep seeing it from the Westway when I drive past. And, like you say, it looks so *nice*. I thought it must be my destiny to eat there one day. And on Tuesday, I was really hungry after a miserable session with a client. And it was raining and freezing. So I thought, "My time has come." I walked in. Then I saw the sign saying "Falafel: £5" and saw the look on the guy's face - and froze. Stuffed my hand in my pocket, pretended not to find the £35 in it, told him I had no money and left, fast. Got on the tube, got off at Shepherds Bush, crossed the road and went to Mr Falafel (the original, I think?). £2.50. Majestic. Mr Falafel is the best falafel in London, I agree - in Shepherds Bush market as well as Golborne Road.

Not the same dude, I have to say. Mr Falafel on Golborne Road is just a guy in a tent, who does Golborne Road and some car boot sale in Kilburn on Saturdays. But he rules.

Point: Mr Falafel is not an official term, he's just the guy who sells falafel from a tent on Golborne Road, outside the halal butchers, just north of the Golborne deli...

Ah, this guy is actually Mr Falafel, and he was profiled in the Sunday Times, talking about opening new branches, so I just kind of assumed.
