King’s Chinese is one of the better takeout places I’ve found in the Archway area. They’ve got a huge range of food from China, Malaysia and Thailand including dishes such as Nasi Goreng (Malaysian fried rice), Thai Green Curry and classic Chinese items like Crispy Duck and the ever-present mixed hors d’oeuvres. They’ve got a complete menu on-line which you can filter by main ingredient, style or name.

Now I wouldn’t say that the Chinese side of things is particularly stunning: The mixed hors d’oeuvres are below average with soggy, slightly chewy prawn toast and not-very-crispy crispy seaweed, but are held up by some good, meaty ribs. However, on the Malaysian side things look up a bit. Perhaps it’s because we went for their recommended dishes (always a good idea when you come across a menu that could be mistaken for a novel), but they were a significant improvement.

It’s take-out only, so don’t turn up hoping for a candlelit dinner. The delivery is fast, so if you’ve got a few candles at home there’s nothing to complain about there either. I’ve found the staff at the shop helpful and pleasant.

I’ve yet to try the Thai food and given that Nid Ting is only a fifteen minute walk away I’m probably unlikely to, unless I’m feeling exceptionally lazy.

Definitely one of the better options in the area.

I've a friend who just moved to Archway. Have forwarded this on to her. You can't live in a neighborhood and not know a good Chinese takeaway!
