If you're after an iPod, iPhone or a Mac then this is the place to head. You can probably get some of the peripherals cheaper elsewhere and the place can be heaving at the weekend, but it's a fun place.
I am a Mac user. I have an iMac, and an iPod Nano. And an iPod Touch. Although that's just borrowed. Apple make stuff that looks great, and works out of the box. It's a good thing. But what happens when it doesn't work out of the box? That's when you discover just how unfriendly the world of Apple can be. I had always thought that it was a bit of a myth that Apple has this legion of zealot fans, who are convinced that nothing Apple do can be wrong. And then I tried posting on some forums, about some problems I was experiencing with an iPod Touch. Ouch! A level of sarcasm and blind devotion that I've never experienced before. I won't post the comments here, but suffice to say, the iPod refusing to sync was my fault. The Apple Store staff were just as bad, I think they have been indoctrinated that Apple=Good Windows=Bad, which may explain why I was treated like an idiot. Apple products are good, they look stunning, and when they work, using them is a joy. But I have yet to find a genius at the Genius Bar.
Ok so it's always busy, and there's an air of American consumerism in the air that wafts between the geeky enthusiasts of the Apple products, but what's not to love. Less a 'store' and more a cool and trendy place to hang out and get your fingers onto the latest beautifully produced quality product from Apple. And they encourage the playing here! better than a trip to the Science Museum and being able to press all those buttons!
Staff are always friendly in that over helpful corporate branded way (ironic as this seems to be the image that Apple prefer to shy away from in comparison to say Microsoft). But if gadgets are your game, or you just want to check the latest review on TP, then access to a 'free' computer and being able to bask in the beauty of all that is Apple you could do much worse than spend an afternoon here... or all day... But they might prefer it if you buy something!
I was a Windows user for years, but converted to Apple earlier in the year. I'm not a full cult member yet so don't hang around the Apple Store for the fun of it like some seem to do, but I do enjoy shopping there.

The central glass staircase poses a problem for girls in short skirts or men in kilts (McMac users?), but aside from that you can't really fault the design of the place.
A genius bar to fix your problems, free wifi and friendly helpful staff who know what they're talking about. If it wasn't for the weather you could pretend you're in San Francisco.
